KANW Radio Begins Classes March 5

Learn how to use equipment, select music and serve as an on-air volunteer.

The Albuquerque Public Schools radio station KANW, 89.1 FM, will begin its spring radio broadcasting course on Tuesday, March 5, at the KANW studios, 2020 Coal Ave. SE.

The seven-week course is designed for high school seniors or others ages 17 and older. It provides participants with the opportunity to learn to use the station’s broadcast equipment, how to select music, voice techniques and FCC rules and regulations.

The course meets from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, through April 18.

Participants will receive an introduction to non-commercial and commercial radio broadcasting. They will receive hands-on training and will have the opportunity to practice their skills as on-air volunteers at KANW.

The fee for the class is $250, with a $50 scholarship for high school students. To register or for more information, contact Kevin Otero at 242-7163 or by e-mail at kevin@kanw.com. Registration information is also available on the station’s website.

Class size is limited.
