Internet Essentials Provides Affordable, High-Speed Internet Access for Many APS Families

Albuquerque Public Schools is partnering with Comcast to provide low-cost internet to families on a tight budget.

Imagine trying to do a job without the proper tools of the trade: a builder without a hammer, a chef without a knife, a painter without a brush.

One of the most important tools for students today is access to the internet. In Albuquerque Public Schools, students of all ages use technology on a regular basis to complete assignments, research and projects. It allows them to explore, question, challenge and connect. Students who don’t have this access at home often are at a disadvantage.

Which is why Albuquerque Public Schools is partnering with Comcast to provide low-cost internet to families on a tight budget. Called Internet Essentials, this service includes:

  • High-speed internet service for $9.95 + tax per month
  • No credit check, no term contract
  • No installation fee
  • In-home WiFi included
  • Access to 40, one-hour sessions of XFINITY WiFi hotspots outside the home every 30 days
  • The option to purchase a refurbished desktop or laptop for $149.99 + tax which includes Microsoft Office, Norton Security Suite, and a 90-day warranty
  • Free in-person and online digital training classes

Students Who Attend Title I Schools

All students enrolled in Title I schools are eligible to apply for the program. Check with your child's school.

Please note the additional eligibility requirements listed below. To apply, call (855) 339-4860 or go to InternetEssentials.com. You will need to provide your contact information and the name of your child’s school. That’s it! No other paperwork is necessary, and if you meet the program eligibility criteria noted below, you will be pre-approved and could have home internet services within five days.

Students Who Don't Attend Title I Schools

Students who don't attend Title I schools also may be eligible. To apply, call (877) 710-4030 or go to InternetEssentials.com.

With internet and WiFi at home, you also will be able to log in to ParentVUE, which provides secure, private access to school and student information including assignments, grades, attendance, calendars, teacher contacts and more.

Internet Essentials is not a school or district program and you are not required to purchase it. But if you think this is a tool that will help your child learn and keep your family connected, we encourage you to sign up.

To qualify for Internet Essentials, your household must be located where Comcast offers internet service, has not subscribed to Comcast internet services within the past 90 days and does not have an overdue Comcast bill or unreturned equipment within the past year. Pre-approval for the program is limited to families of students whose schools have a 40% or higher number of students eligible to participate in the National School Lunch Program. Internet Essentials from Comcast is a program to provide home internet service for families. It is not a school program and is not required by your school. Your school is not responsible for Internet Essentials accounts. No school or district funds were used for this notice.
