Five APS Seniors Selected as Daniels Scholars

The four-year scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who demonstrate exceptional character, leadership and a commitment to serving their communities.

Five Albuquerque Public Schools high school seniors have been awarded Daniels Scholarships which provide a four-year education at any accredited nonprofit college or university in the United States.

The highly competitive scholarship, which provides financial and personal support to recipients, is awarded to residents of New Mexico, Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Thousands of applicants went through a rigorous application and interview process. Selected scholars were notified this week.

Daniels Scholars representing the APS Class of 2016 are:

  • Sonia Ramirez of Atrisco Heritage Academy High School
  • Benjamin Alexander Holubiak of the Early College Academy
  • Melea Kathleen Thomas of Eldorado High School
  • Hyesun Choi of La Cueva High School
  • Julio de Marcos Avila of Sandia High School.

The Daniels Fund, established by cable television pioneer Bill Daniels, is a private charitable foundation dedicated to making life better for the people of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming through its grants program, scholarship program and ethics initiative.
