Dolores Gonzales Elementary Celebrates Agriculture Day April 27

Students will participate in hands-on activities related to farming and ranching

April 24, 2012

Students at Dolores Gonzales Elementary will celebrate what they hope is the first Agriculture Day of many to come. Volunteers are setting up hands-on learning stations that students will visit from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m., Friday, April 27.

The event recognizes the state’s contributions to agriculture. Representatives from the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish as well as the New Mexico Beef Council will be visiting the school, and Smokey Bear is expected to stop by. Chickens and geese will be brought to the school.

Students will learn about farming, ranching, roping and sheep-raising, and see a literacy presentation on agriculture. They will also participate in a writing contest about their favorite learning station, with prizes awarded at each grade level.
