Four Albuquerque-area students -- one from each high school grade level -- were each awarded a $3,000 cash prize from the Albuquerque New Car & Truck Dealers Association for having perfect attendance during the 2016-17 school year.Winning the $3,000 cash prize were:

The winners are:

  • Anyae McNeil, who just completed her freshman year at Volcano Vista High School
  • Colin Howard, who was a sophomore at Sandia High School
  • Hannah Worten, who was a junior at the Ask Academy
  • Dominic Sharp, a 2017 graduate of West Mesa High School.

“What these students did is not easy and they deserve to be recognized,” said Charles Henson, who coordinated the drawing for the Albuquerque New Car & Truck Dealers Association. “They and their families should be very proud."

The total number of students eligible to participate in the drawing increased nearly 50 percent over last year with more than 200 students in grades 9 through 12 from APS, Rio Rancho and charter schools qualifying.

As an incentive to continue perfect attendance every year, additional chances to win the drawing are given for each consecutive year of perfect attendance. Of the 131 APS students achieving perfect attendance this year, nine had two chances, six had three chances, and four had four chances to win.

Just like they had to do every day at school, students had to be present for the drawing in order to win a cash prize.
