Middle schoolers conquered the Little League World Series, then returned to school.

August 21, 2012

The Eastdale Little League softball team made national headlines last week as it won the Little League Softball World Series. Most of their games in the Series weren’t even close.

A crowd of proud friends, neighbors and family gathered at Desert Ridge Middle School to watch the championship game on a big screen in the gym.

The 11 players have since returned to Albuquerque and their APS middle schools. Playing under manager Reno Sanchez, the players are

  • Rachael Hathoot, Andrea Howard, Taylor Jones, Jessica McAlister, Katherine Sanchez and Ariana Strunk of Desert Ridge;
  • Desiree Madrid, Bailey Martinez and Victoria Reyes of Madison; and
  • Lydia Schmutz and Shannon Stein of Eisenhower.

The team received a warm welcome when it returned home, and was honored following an Albuquerque Isotopes game.

APS would like to add its congratulations for this tremendous accomplishment.
