Atrisco Heritage Academy High School Principal Named

July 6, 2012

Gabriel Antonio Gonzales has been named principal for Albuquerque Public Schools Atrisco Heritage Academy High School.

“Mr. Gonzales has a wealth of administrative and instructional experience that should serve him well in his new position,” said APS Superintendent Winston Brooks. “He also is bilingual and has experience working with diverse communities.”

Gonzales, who is currently working on his doctorate in educational leadership at the University of New Mexico, holds a master’s degree in education from UNM.

He had served as an assistant principal at Albuquerque High School since 2009. Gonzales replaces Karen Sanchez-Griego, who took a position out-of-state and had been principal at Atrisco Heritage since it opened in 2008.

Gonzales started teaching with APS in 2005, also at Albuquerque High, and previously served as a youth coordinator with the Engaging Latino Communities for Education or ENLACE program.
