Sonya Romero -- a kindergarten teacher at Lew Wallace Elementary who garnered national attention last year when she was honored by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" for providing clothes, food, even a home to students in need -- was on hand Thursday as President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act at the White House.

Ms. Romero attended as a guest of Randi Weingartner, president of the American Federation of Teachers.
