APS Names Principals at 13 Elementary Schools, Two Mid-Schools

The Albuquerque Public Schools has named new principals at 13 elementary schools and two middle schools in the district for the 2012-13 school year.

May 25, 2012

Mary Ellen Farrelly, currently principal at Emerson Elementary, has been named principal at Los Padillas Elementary for the 2012-13 school year. Farrelly replaces Sara Keeney, who is retiring.

Deanne Golleher, currently principal at Corrales Elementary, has been named principal at Griegos Elementary. Golleher replaces Tom Graham, who is retiring from Griegos.

Trish Steimer, currently a principal in Bernalillo, will take Golleher’s place at Corrales.

Jill Vice, currently principal at Gov. Bent Elementary, has been named principal at John Baker Elementary. Vice replaces Denise Brigman, who was earlier named principal at Emerson Elementary for next year.

Patricia Sanchez, currently principal at Alamosa Elementary, has been named principal at Sombra del Monte Elementary.

Rose White, currently principal at Barcelona Elementary, has been named principal at Armijo Elementary.

Penelope Buschardt, currently an assistant principal at La Mesa Elementary, has been named principal at Hawthorne Elementary.

Sandy Fernandez will remain as interim principal at S.R. Marmon Elementary for the 2012-13 school year.

Venesee Mildren, currently principal at A. Montoya Elementary, has been named principal at Lew Wallace Elementary. The principal position at A. At the middle school level, Ed Bortot, currently an assistant principal at Manzano High School, has been named principal at Kennedy Middle School. Bortot replaces Barbara Williamson, who is retiring. And, Holly Beiler Gurule, currently an assistant principal at the Career Enrichment Center, has been named principal at John Adams Middle School. Gurule replaces Dante Tuton, who also will be retiring.

“We believe all these individuals will serve the communities at these schools well,” said APS Superintendent Winston Brooks.
