APS Board Approves Agreements with Unions
Contracts were approved for unions representing teachers, educational assistants, secretarial/clerical staff, food service, police, and maintenance and operations workers and custodial staff.
Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education approved contracts with six unions during its regular meeting Wednesday night.
All the contracts include a 1 percent raise for employees that was included in funding approved by the state Legislature earlier this year.
Albuquerque Teachers Federation: Among the changes agreed to in the new contract with teachers were to increase the differential for school athletic directors to $7,300 per year and to create a job description for testing coordinators and pay them differential if funds become available.
Educational Assistants: Among the changes agreed to were to create a committee on health assistants and to pay a $250 stipend to bilingual health assistants.
Secretarial/Clerical: Among the changes agreed to were to increase longevity pay by 5 cents per hour and to create a task force to study the staffing formula for school sites with high student populations.
Maintenance and Operations: Among the changes agreed to were to review job descriptions for landscapers, stadium groundskeepers and middle school head custodians and to coordinate meetings with the chief operations officer and superintendent.
Food Service: Among the changes agreed to were to increase the base salary for newly hired workers to $8.75 per hour and to provide a $60 per year allowance for safety shoes.
Police: Among the changes agreed to were to increase pay for certified firearms instructors by 20 cents per hour and for employees with bachelor’s degrees by 10 cents per hour and by 15 cents per hour for those with master’s degrees.
