Alternative (Year-Round) Calendar Approved by Board of Education
July 23 is the first day of school for students at the eight schools on the alternative calendar

Monday, July 23, will be the first day of the 2012-2013 school year for the eight APS elementary schools on the alternative calendar (also sometimes referred to as year-round schools).
The APS Board of Education approved the alternative calendar for these schools at its meeting last week.
The eight schools are Cochiti, Duranes, Eugene Field, M.A. Binford, Mark Twain, Navajo, Oñate and S.R. Marmon.
Teachers at these schools will return to work on July 17 for student registration, professional development and preparation days.
Washington Middle School, which has been on an alternative calendar for three years, is returning to a traditional schedule next fall.
The alternative calendar shares several holidays with the traditional calendar including Labor Day on Sept. 3; fall break on Oct. 12; Election Day on Nov. 6; a three-day Thanksgiving break Nov. 21-23; winter break from Dec. 24 to Jan. 4; the first day of second semester on Jan. 8; Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Jan. 21; Presidents Day on Feb. 18; the Vernal Holiday on March 29 and the last day of school on May 22.
In addition, the alternative calendar includings a fall intersession from Oct. 24-Nov. 7 and a spring intersession from March 4-15.
