Adobe Acres Teacher Earns Air Force Association Award

Elyse Sedillo receives recognition for science education.

Adobe Acres Elementary teacher Elyse Sedillo recently received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Air Force Association Albuquerque Chapter 258. The award recognizes her accomplishments in science education.

Sedillo teaches fifth grade students in the school’s gifted program. She has been recognized for her 14 years of participation in the Mars Mission Flight program managed by the Air Force Research Laboratory’s La Luz Academy as well as guiding her students to first place in an essay contest that won them a trip to the Challenger Learning Center to participate in a simulated space mission.

According to Adobe Acres Principal Annittra Atler, Sedillo comes up with creative ways to enhance projects like these and improve students’ understanding of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) concepts. Sedillo has also organized a career fair that focuses on STEM fields.
