2013-14 Calendar Adds a Second Day for Fall Break, Pushes Back Spring Break

The first day of school will be Tuesday, Aug. 13, and the last day will be Thursday, May 22, assuming the calendar gets a final nod by the Board of Education, which is expected to approve it Wednesday, Dec. 19.

December 12, 2012

The 2013-2014 school calendar was approved this week by the APS Board of Education policy committee and is expected to receive the final OK on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

The first day of school will be Tuesday, Aug. 13. Teachers and school staff return to work a week earlier on Tuesday, Aug. 6.

The last day of school will be Thursday, May 22. The calendar includes two snow make-up days, Feb. 18 and May 23. If more are needed, students will have to return to school after Memorial Day on May 27-30.

The biggest differences between this year’s and next year's calendar are the addition of a second day for fall break during Balloon Fiesta and the pushing back of spring break by a month to accommodate state testing in March. Spring break this school year is March 11-15; in 2014, it will be April 14-18 (the week before Easter).
