Compliance with Life Safety Fire Marshal Codes

New strict Fire Department life safety rules and amendments are taking effect, and both City and County Fire Marshal offices are focusing on the school District’s fire code inspection reports this current fiscal year. While none of the schools have serious deficiencies that would endanger the safety of children, the District is not grandfathered in with most of the new codes. As new codes go into effect, the District will need to make changes to comply with these mandates within a designated time period. Therefore, Fire Marshal fire code inspection reports and bringing the District into compliance are priorities for M&O in the current fiscal year.

There will be a greater emphasis for APS and the Fire Marshals to work together in identifying the greatest life and safety danger issues and meeting compliance. Discussion, on a case-by-case basis, is anticipated regarding the spirit and purpose of the rule to determine what is and what isn’t a danger to safety.
