Facilities

The Albuquerque School District maintains the largest collection of public buildings in New Mexico that approximate 14 million square feet of traditional school buildings, portable classrooms, administrative offices, and facilities.

APS has built twelve new schools since 1995 and is building eight new schools over the next two years. These include:

  • Two new high schools for 2,200 students each
  • One new middle school designed for 1,200 students
  • Five new elementary schools, three of which are prototype designs for 650 students each

Many of these new schools will be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified or will contain many design principals that promote sustainability, energy efficiency, and a positive learning environment through factors such as day-lighting, temperature control, and clean air.
