Time Running Out to Apply for IB Diploma Program

Students who will be juniors next school year have until Friday, Feb. 15, to apply for the world-renowned college prep program to be housed at Sandia High beginning in the fall of 2013.

Applications are now available online for the International Baccalaureate Program scheduled to begin at Sandia High School next school year.

Though Sandia High School will house the renowned IB Program, all qualified students in Albuquerque are invited and encouraged to apply. The program will be available to students in the Class of 2015. They will enter the two-year program as juniors.

Students who might benefit most from the program are highly motivated, have had academic success and are intellectually curious.

Go here for more information on the APS IB Program.

The application is due by Feb. 15 in the IB Office at Sandia High.

In addition, teacher references are due on Feb. 8, also in the IB Office. Teacher reference forms are part of the application packet. Applicants need recommendations from three current classroom teachers as follows:

  • One from an English or social studies teacher
  • One from a math or science teacher
  • One from a teacher of the student’s choice from an academic class.

Teachers should not return references to the student, but should send them
directly to the IB Office through inter-school mail; U.S. mail at 7801 Candelaria NE,
Albuquerque, 87110; or fax at 291‐6878.

In addition to the application and teacher recommendations, the admissions process includes a personal interview, a review of scores from the fall 2012 PSAT, and a review of school transcripts and grades.

For more information on the application process, contact IB Coordinator Ann Goswick at goswick@aps.edu or 294-1511, ext. 30136.
