IB Applications Now Available Online

Students who will be juniors next school year have until Feb. 15 to apply for the world-recognized college prep program housed at Sandia High.

Applications are now available online for the International Baccalaureate Program scheduled to begin at Sandia High School next school year.

Though Sandia High School will house the renowned IB Program, all qualified students in Albuquerque are invited and encouraged to apply. The program will be available to students in the Class of 2015. They will enter the two-year program as juniors.

Students who might benefit most from the program are highly motivated, have had academic success and are intellectually curious.

The application is due by Feb. 15 in the IB Office at Sandia High.

In addition, teacher references are due on Feb. 8, also in the IB Office. Teacher reference forms are part of the application packet. Applicants need recommendations from three current classroom teachers as follows:

  • One from an English or social studies teacher
  • One from a math or science teacher
  • One from a teacher of the student’s choice from an academic class.

Teachers should not return references to the student, but should send them
directly to the IB Office through inter-school mail; U.S. mail at 7801 Candelaria NE,
Albuquerque, 87110; or fax at 291‐6878.

In addition to the application and teacher recommendations, the admissions process includes a personal interview, a review of scores from the fall 2012 PSAT, and a review of school transcripts and grades.

The APS Education Foundation is looking for three students to serve on its board. Applications are due Jan. 25.
Prolonging the Life of Musical Instruments
The APS Music Instrument Repair Shop fixes more than a thousand instruments a year. Still, there is a need for new instruments. More than $7 million of the proposed bond/mill levy package would go to the APS Fine Arts program for instruments, uniforms and other equipment.
Art & Music Coming to All Elementary Schools
We're hiring 20 music and art teachers each year for the next five so that students will have both subjects every year in elementary school.
