Level 2 Renewal and Advancement Guidelines

ADVANCEMENT FROM LEVEL 2 TO LEVEL 3 with DOSSIER

Complete Intent to Advance Form

  1. Complete a minimum of three full school years of teaching experience at Level 2 by June of the current school year.
  2. Have 3 successful annual evaluations at the current level*
EXAMPLE: APS Summative Evaluation: meets competency
a.  Year 1: 60% of possible points from NMTEACH Summative Report: Observation Domain 2 & 3
b.  Year 2: 60% of possible points from NMTEACH Summative Report: Observation Domain 2 & 3
c.  Year 3: 60% of possible points from APS Observation and PDP Summary: Observation Domain 2 & 3

*Additional changes may take place after the decision by the court in AFT vs. NMPED.

3.  Hold a post- baccalaureate degree
4.  Submit** a professional development dossier (PDD) up to three months in advance of the completion of three school years of teaching experience. **Window open from  July 15 to March 31

ADVANCEMENT FROM LEVEL 2 TO LEVEL 3 without DOSSIER

Complete Intent to Advance Form

Advancement from Level 2 to Level 3 without dossier - Based on Student achievement

NMPED flexibility to advance without dossier if certain requirements are met is not prevented by the injunction. If overall rating on the most recent NMTEACH Evaluation was Effective, Highly Effective, or Exemplary with 50% or more of the possible student achievement points awarded (25/50 or 50/100), a teacher may be eligible to advance without dossier if the following requirements are met.

  1. Complete a minimum of three full school years of teaching experience at Level 2 by June of the current school year
  2. Have 3 successful annual evaluations at the current level*
    EXAMPLE: APS Summative Evaluation: meets competency
    a.  Year 1: 60% of possible points from NMTEACH Summative Report: Observation Domain 2 & 3
    b.  Year 2: 60% of possible points from NMTEACH Summative Report: Observation Domain 2 & 3
    c.  Year 3: 60% of possible points from APS Observation and PDP Summary: Observation Domain 2 & 3
            *Additional changes may take place after the decision by the court in AFT vs. NMPED.
  3. Have rating of Effective or above on the most recent NMTEACH Summative Report and 50% or more of the possible student achievement points (35/70). NMTEACH Summatives effective dates: September 1 through June 30.
  4. Hold a post- baccalaureate degree
  5. Submit Advancement without Dossier Application
  6. Submit Superintendent’s Recommendation to Advance without Dossier

Advancement from Level 2 to Level 3 without dossier - Based on NBCT

1.  Complete a minimum of three full school years of teaching experience at Level 2 by June of the current school year.
2.  Have 3 successful annual evaluations at the current level*

EXAMPLE: APS Summative Evaluation: meets competency
a.  Year 1: 60% of possible points from NMTEACH Summative Report: Observation Domain 2 & 3
b.  Year 2: 60% of possible points from NMTEACH Summative Report: Observation Domain 2 & 3
c.  Year 3: 60% of possible points from APS Observation and PDP Summary: Observation Domain 2 & 3

*Additional changes may take place after the decision by the court in AFT vs. NMPED.

3.  Have certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
4.  Submit Advancement without Dossier Application
5.  Submit Superintendent’s Recommendation to Advance without Dossier

LEVEL 2 RENEWAL: License due for renewal June of the current school year

  1. 60% of total possible points on Observation Domain 2 & 3. *Additional changes may take place after the decision by the court in AFT vs. NMPED.
  2. If requirement 1 met: apply on-line at teachnm.org beginning in January. Use previous year's observation scores.
    a.  Superintendent’s Recommendation will be provided to NMPED electronically
  3. If requirement 1 NOT met use current year's observation scores. If requirement still not met: submit the Recommendation Extending Standard License

Special Circumstances: If you have not taught part or all of the years of your license you may request an extension.Request to Extend License Unused During Part or All of the Term of the License

NOTE: The documents necessary for mailing in your application are available by clicking on  apply by mail and  Superintendents Recommendation for Continuing Licensure.  You will need both forms.
