Here are some supporting documents for staff to evaluate school nutrition:
Nutrition at APS is an integration of programs that provide access to:
- A variety of nutritious, affordable and appealing meals and snacks for students
- Nutrition education
- An environment that promotes healthy eating behaviors
Food and Beverage Information
Nutrition information regarding the implementation of the New Mexico Nutrition Standards for Competitive Foods (NM Nutrition Bureau), which helps ensure that students, when sold food or beverages produced at school or school sponsored events and fund raisers, have healthy choices among the products sold:
- APS Food and Beverage Recommendations: A list with specific examples of foods and beverages meeting the guidelines outlined in the NM Nutrition Standards for Competitive Foods.
- Nutrition Rule Grid: Rules for selling food and beverages through vending machines, a la carte during lunch periods, and during fund raisers.
NM Healthy Kids Fact Sheets
The New Mexico Action for Healthy Kids has created some nutrition fact sheets to help keep your children healthy:
- Alternatives to Food Rewards: Tips on using alternatives to food as a reward
- Food Fundraising and Concessions: Ideas on providing healthy options for before and after school fundraisers and concessions
