Kid's Tastings

Elementary School Nutrition, Food Tasting, and Basic Physical Activity Program

APS Kid’s Tastings  is an elementary school nutrition, food tasting, and basic physical activity program designed to introduce students to a wider variety of foods and empower students to choose healthy foods in the classroom, cafeteria, and outside of school.  Elementary school students learn about basic nutrition and healthy foods by participating in tasting lessons.  Program activities use an integrated curriculum format that provide opportunities for interdisciplinary learning, including nutrition, literacy, social studies, science, math, art, and basic physical activity.  APS Kid’s Tastings  model healthy food choices in elementary school classrooms and is paired with opportunities to choose fresh fruits and vegetables in their school cafeteria.

APS Kid’s Tastings  will continue for the 2012-2013 school year in 5 elementary schools.  APS Kid’s Tastings offers each classroom (K-5) 5 tasting classes taught by food educators in collaboration with classroom teachers, educational assistants, and parent volunteers.  Lessons will be taught over the course of the school year.
