  • National Ranking: APS is the 31st-largest school district in the US
  • Geographic Area: the APS district covers a 1,230-square mile area that encompasses all of the Albuquerque Metropolitan area in Bernalillo County and a small portion of Sandoval County, New Mexico
  • Elementary Schools: APS has 89 elementary
  • Middle Schools: APS has 27 middle schools.
  • High Schools: APS has 13 high schools.
  • Alternative Schools: APS has 12 schools of choice.
  • Charter Schools: 20 APS-Authorized Charter Schools and 35 State-Authorized Charters Schools.

APS Facilities Design + Construction

  • Capital budget: nearly $1 billion in both new educational facility capital projects as well as improvements and refurbishments in the district's schools between 2010 and 2016.
  • Current Projects: FD&C currently has 146 projects in design or construction totaling approximately $378 million
  • Square Feet: approximately 15 million square feet of traditional school buildings, portable classrooms, and administrative offices and facilities
  • Elementary School Design Standards: APS elementary schools encompass kindergarten through 5th grades, average 45,000 square feet, and are designed to accommodate up to 850 students
  • Middle School Design Standards: APS middle schools accommodate grades 6 through 8, average 100,000 square feet, and are designed to house up to 1300 students
  • High School Design Standards: APS high schools hosts grades 9 through 12, average 320,000 square feet, and are designed to accommodate up to 2200 students
