Parents are invited to a seminar on the dangers of heroin from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 21, at the La Cueva High School Performing Arts Center (map). The seminar is hosted by Be a Hero, Say NO to Heroin, a parent activist committee dedicated to raising awareness about the devastating effects of heroin use and addiction.

The group, also known as the Heroin Awareness Committee, formed last year by parents of La Cueva High and Desert Ridge Middle School students. Committee president Jennifer Weiss said it was created in response to a need to spread awareness of how destructive the drug can be to users and their families. Membership has broadened to include parents of Eldorado High students as well.

There is no admission charge for the seminar and all parents are welcome. More information is available by contacting saynotoheroin@gmail.com or at the Be a Hero, Say NO to Heroin page on Facebook.
