The Albuquerque Public Schools Fine Arts Department will host a free performance of music and dance by Albuquerque middle and high school students at 6 p.m. Friday at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Performers include folklórico and mariachi groups as well as Middle Eastern dancers and Manzano High’s Advanced Guitar Ensemble.

Friday night’s public performance is the culmination of a three-day event for students at all grade levels to experience performing arts from a wide variety of cultures.

Thanks to the APS Educational Foundation through the Dolde Charitable Trust, more than a thousand students come together each year to dance, sing and perform musical pieces they’ve worked all year to prepare.

During this year’s Festival de Bellas Artes, students will experience African, hip hop, flamenco and folklórico dance; celebrated guitarists John Truitt and Brian Moore will tutor student musicians; and members of the APS Fine Arts Department will be engaging students in world percussion techniques.
