Just over a third of APS high school graduates last year successfully applied for federal financial aid to help continue their education. That means six out of 10 students failed to tap into billions of dollars in federal funding for grants, student loans and work study programs.

At least that many APS students attend Title I schools and/or qualify for free or reduced-priced meals, meaning many high school graduates who would qualify for federal aid aren’t taking advantage of it.

Some of these young adults may not realize there is so much money available for post-secondary education – $150 billion by some estimates – or that the aid is available not only for four-year universities but also for community college and trade school.
