The Eubank Academy of Literacy and Fine Arts is proud to present the 6th annual spring musical, "Go West."

"Go West"

The show is a history lesson, telling the story of the gold rush migration across the United States. Inventors of various modes of transportation will be featured as the pioneers travel west by way of steamboat, covered wagon, and the iron horse. There will be trappers, cowpokes, train conductors, Ukrainians, Native Americans, Guatemalans, Scandinavians, singing about making a new home in the new land. Brigham Young will make an appearance. There will be a hoe down with a square dance, which is America's official folk dance.

Performance: 6:30 p.m. at Sandia Baptist Church (9429 Constitution Ave NE)

Spring Musical History

This is the 6th annual Spring Musical at Eubank. The first was titled " We Haz Jazz," which featured 42 students playing jazz musicians who told the stories of their lives. It was held in the school cafeteria, with minimal costumes and no scenery.

The second show, "Destination America," featured tap dancers. The group performed a number for the school board and also sang at Civic Plaza the year that we celebrated "National Anthem Day."

Now the spring musical has now grown to include 55 students from grades 3-5. In addition to our regular cast, it will also feature three first graders singing, "My Pony and Me."

What makes this show unique in Albuquerque is that it is like a broadway show at the elementary school level. This is the only production of its caliber and scope that is produced by teachers working for the APS Fine Arts Department.

Eubank Elementary includes many "high risk"students. This show is a springboard for these students to explore and show off some of their many fine talents. Because it is an after school program, teachers have put together a wonderfully complex show in a very short amount of time.
