Elementary Honor Choir Festival

The eighth annual APS Elementary Honor Choir Festival will be on Saturday, March 5, at Cibola High School. There will be a fourth grade and a fifth grade honor choir made up of students nominated by their music teachers. 

The conductor for the fifth grade honor choir is Paul Hallsted of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and the conductor of the fourth grade honor choir is Dr. Robin Giebelhausen, music education professor at the University of New Mexico.

The APS elementary music teachers will serve as the accompanist for the students. The concert repertoire will consist of folk songs from various countries, patriotic music and the Spanish language New Mexico state song, and American pop classics as Summertime by George Gershwin and Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder. 

The choirs will rehearse during the morning and early afternoon and present a final concert to conclude the festival. The Fourth Grade Honor Choir concert is at 2:45 p.m. and the Fifth Grade Honor Choir concert is at 4 p.m. Both concert will take place at the Joan Kent Theatre on the campus of Cibola High School.
