APS and Comcast are sponsoring a free Earth Day Community Fair and health care enrollment event at Lavaland Elementary School: 501 75th St. NW (map).
The event will feature a rock wall, free immunization clinic for APS students, Zumba, a grower’s market, free food and snacks, bilingual Medicaid enrollment on-site, and much more.
APS’ Medicaid Enrollment Events combine health education for families, fun activities for kids and parents, and insurance enrollment and resources for anyone in need. Healthcare enrollment experts will be on hand to enroll families or individuals in Medicaid, can provide emergency cards to kids (some conditions apply), and can also give referrals to enroll in Medicare or on the Health Insurance Exchange.
“Open enrollment” for Federal Health Insurance officially ended on January 31, 2017, so we highly encourage all APS families and staff to attend if you are still uninsured. Medicaid enrollment can be done year round, but to avoid a tax penalty for next year, you should make sure you get health insurance of any kind, as soon as possible. On-site enrollment will be offered at this free event, and walk-ins are welcome and encouraged during this time. Attending this event can also help save families valuable time. At the ISD office you can wait up to 6 hours to get enrolled, at APS events, families can get enrolled in less than an hour.
“Because health-related issues can be barriers to learning, APS is working on ways for students and families to be healthier,” said Brian Bolding, Medicaid enrollment coordinator in the APS Student, Family, and Community Supports Division. “We at APS believe that a healthier student is a more successful student.”
