More than two dozen art students from Volcano Vista High School have created three beautiful murals painted on the walls Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School.

Carolyn Kaser, art teacher at Volcano Vista High School, orchestrated the effort.

"Last year, the staff at S.R. Marmon contacted me to see if the Volcano Vista Art Club would want to paint murals in their school," Kaser recalled. "Our students worked for three weeks in January and February this year to paint the three murals after their initial design sketches were approved by (Principal) Ms. Fernandez and the administration at S.R. Marmon."

One of the murals was painted to honor S.R. Marmon and the native culture celebrated at the school.

The students painted another mural with a career choice theme -- cartoon style animals are shown in a variety of careers.

The third mural is outside the cafeteria and shows how diverse students come together to share meals.

"The high school students showed a lot of dedication and hard work, and enjoyed learning about S.R. Marmon and getting to work together on something collaborative."

They will be dedicated at 6 p.m. Friday, March 11 at S.R. Marmon, 1800 72nd St. NW.
