The Albuquerque High School STEAM Club will host “Dance and Silver Nanoprisms,” a special event featuring dance performances by the Albuquerque Steam Club dance groups, "The Black Diamonds" (KPOP) and the STEAM Dancers (middle eastern). Both groups performed in the APS Festival de Belles Artes.

The cost to attend is $1.00.

Science teacher Valerie Kovach will share on “Silver Nanoprisms.” Kovach attended a Research Experience for Teachers last summer at nano@illinois, the Nanoscience department at the University of Illinois in Champagne-Urbana. She worked with Professor Quian Chen and other researchers on the team. Kovach prepared a curriculum for high school students based on this experience and worked during the 2017-2018 school year with the Chen Research Team to ensure the scientific accuracy of her educational modules.

Prof Chen describes the work of the team: “We focus on … understanding active soft matter, the artificial materials analog of smart living systems… our goal is to emulate Nature intelligence and to make artificial materials self-replicating, self-regenerating and eventually 'evolvable.'”

Teachers interested in receiving the modules may email Kovach at . There is no cost to receive the modules since they were prepared in conjunction with a National Science Foundation grant.
