The Indigenous Recognition Day at Manzano High School is a gathering of Native American students in an effort to reconnect with their culture. 

This event will showcase several Native American performances from nearby Albuquerque tribes. The guest speakers will send a positive message to the students to instill the importance of their traditions. There will be numerous vendors (jewelry, food, arts & crafts, etc.) available for families and the community to enjoy throughout the event.

The theme of the first event of its type at MHS is "Community Unity and the Importance of Education."

FREE & OPEN to the community

8 a.m. Vendor Registration

9 a.m. Opening Event

Performances by Native American Musicians, Tribal Dancers, Storytellers, Drum Groups

Guest Speakers:

  • Emmett "Shkeme" Garcia, singer, dancer and cultural educator and author
  • Ken Lucero, director of RWJF

12:30 p.m. Closing Remarks

Traditional attire is welcome.
