Emergency Shelter Set up at Highland High School

The City of Albuquerque and the State of New Mexico have issued an energy emergency.

Emergency Shelter Locations

The American Red Cross has set up shelters at Albuquerque Public Schools to protect citizens who are without heat.

The Red Cross will provide cots, blankets and basic food items for sheltering families at:

Highland High School

Bring the following items with you:

  • Prescription Medications
  • Toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, contact solution, soap, etc)
  • Pillows
  • Extra blankets and sleeping bags
  • Cell phone chargers and communication devices
  • Changes of clothes

New Mexicans are being asked to conserve natural gas in order to preserve gas service throughout the state.

What you can do

Frigid temperatures are expected to last through Friday. Please:

  • Keep your children and pets indoors.
  • Check on elderly and disabled neighbors who may be without heat.
  • Dress in layers to stay warm.
  • In order to prevent frozen pipes, leave the faucet furthest from your water meter dripping with cold water.
  • Unplug unnecessary appliances.
  • Turn your thermostat down to help conserve natural gas.
  • Limit hot water usage to help conserve natural gas.
  • Do NOT use un-vented heaters, grills, propane or kerosene heaters, or camp stoves inside your home or in enclosed spaces.
