Turn possibilities into realities
A special message from APS Superintendent, Winston Brooks.
My three-plus years as the Superintendent of Albuquerque Public Schools have been some of the best in my career. I knew the work would be extremely challenging, but I'm thrilled to be part of a community that wants change and improvement in its public schools.
As you probably know, we are a large school district with many needs. I believe we have some of the smartest, most driven and dedicated employees you’ll find anywhere. That’s a great start, but it won’t be enough.
Community support will be vital to the success of our students in the years ahead. Change takes time and energy. The Albuquerque Public Schools Education Foundation is the one branch of APS dedicated to identifying individuals in our city who are passionate about education and willing to invest their talents in the promise of a better tomorrow. We’ve already had great success at the Foundation’s first-ever attempt at directed fundraising – the Horizon Campaign. We are grateful to our corporate partners, but we know it won’t and can’t end there.
I encourage you to seriously consider getting involved with the APS Education Foundation. More people need to learn about our foundation and the possibilities we can turn into realities for our 90,000 students.
The APS Education Foundation supports Fine Arts, but it does plenty of other things, too. So many, in fact, that I can't tell you about all of them in this short space. Here's just a quick list: middle school sports, science/technology/engineering/math, literacy and an eye care program for needy. And the list goes on.
I'm proud of the Foundation and its board of directors, but the truth is, we need help from you. We want you to be part of our team. We don’t have much to offer in return shy of the promise that if you join in our cause you will learn a great deal and never have to live with the question of what could have happened.
