2017 Selfless Seniors
Fourteen of the most giving and most impressive students in Albuquerque Public Schools have been selected as 2017 Selfless Seniors by the APS Education Foundation.
The students, nominated for their often unheralded works at their schools, communities and even families, will be recognized on April 21, 2017, during the first-ever Gold Bar Gala, hosted by the Foundation. They also will be photographed by Albuquerque’s Frank Frost, whose work has been critical to Selfless Seniors since its inception in 2008.
About 130 nominations from throughout Albuquerque Public Schools were received, and a committee of 12 community members reviewed them before making the choices.
“This year, only one Selfless Senior per comprehensive high school, and one representing Schools of Choice and APS charters was selected, making this even more difficult,” said Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus.
Frost will shoot personalized portraits of the students. The students’ photos hang at the Albuquerque International Sunport as well as being displayed on Clear Channel Outdoor electronic billboards.
Students were nominated by classmates, teachers, administrators, family members and friends.
“Selfless Seniors will be a key part of our new Gold Bar Gala, it’s the perfect way to honor them. “We’ll have a nighttime, sit-down dinner as part of many other recognitions about the good things that go on in APS. But as with most things, students are perfect to represent the district.”
