Teachers Get LEGO Robotics Training

Robotics kits were purchased with funding from an APS Education Foundation Horizon Grant.

A group of 44 gifted education teachers participated in a LEGO Mindstorms robotics training at Montgomery Complex on Tuesday, Jan. 20.

APS Gifted Evaluation and Resource teacher Tania Salinas facilitated the training with the assistance of Inquiry Facilitators, Inc. President and Founder and RoboRAVE Global Director Russ Fisher-Ives and U.S. Director Brian Montoya.

Four schools selected in the first lottery drawing, received LEGO Mindstorms Education EV3 robotic kits that were purchased through an APS Education Foundation Horizon Award.

The teachers at these schools will have the opportunity to implement robotics with their students for seven weeks. These LEGO Mindstorms Education EV3 robotic kits will then go to the next four schools that were selected in the lottery process.

Teachers were also encouraged to participate in RoboRAVE, a yearly international competition which is designed to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education through friendly competition between teams of students from 3rd through 12th grade.
