Thanks to Sarah Wirtz’s talent and generosity, anyone can own a beautiful item from this year’s A is for Art! gala.

The former Cibola High School student’s painting has been turned into a commemorative, 24-by-36-inch  poster for this year’s event, and copies can be purchased at the APS Education Foundation in the days leading up to the Oct. 3 event at Hotel Albuquerque.

“Sarah is one of the most talented artists in the district, and she was nice enough to donate the rights of a beautiful painting to the Foundation so that we could create the poster,” said Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus. Wirtz graduated from Cibola in May and will attend Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., this fall. She and her family plan to attend the event, which will feature a live and silent auction of art from all traditional APS high schools and performances from groups throughout the city.

In all, about 150 pieces from students and a few from APS teachers will be sold. Students receive a percentage from the sale of their pieces, with the remainder split between the APS Fine Arts Department and the Foundation.
