Students in the LWES gifted program read the Jules Verne classic and prepared a global experience to be shared by the entire school. The multi-disciplinary project-based experience included reading and discussing the novel and researching places Phineas Fogg and Passepartout visited on their 1872 journey.

Congratulations to Yalixza Gonzalez, a 3rd grader at Rudolfo Anaya Elementary School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation.

About Yalixza:

Yalixza was nominated by two different teachers who want to recognize her for always putting forth her best effort. She is known as a student who takes responsibility for her learning, has a positive attitude, is well organized and interacts positively with staff and peers.

When observing in her second grade class, the principal witnessed students defining the word “perfectionist” by saying “that is like Yalixza.”

Her parents say that she is very caring and watches out for others (especially her brother). She is his “mother hen.” She puts her best effort in everything that she does.

Favorite subject:

Math. Additionally, she is in a dual language program and is showing great potential in all subject areas in both English and Math.

Hobbies or activities, both at school and outside of school:

Yalixza is very active! She participates in cheerleading, baseball, soccer and she rides horses.
