Student of the Week: Toren Ambrose

Congratulations to Toren Ambrose, a 3rd grader at Oñate Elementary, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation.

What can a parent or teacher say about this student?

Toren is one of the most respectful, hard-working, kind, and empathetic students I have ever met. He will always notice if another child is having a bad day or is upset about something. Toren does not hesitate to offer an ear or a pat on the back to anyone who seems to be in need of encouragement. Toren exhibits traits that you cannot teach and rarely see in a child his age. As his classroom teacher, my days are always made brighter by seeing his smile; at the same time our class is a bit off-kilter when Toren is absent. I try to give tribute to his parents each time I speak to them.

Favorite subject:

His favorite subject is math.

Hobbies or activities, both at school and outside of school?

Toren is an avid music lover, often introducing his teacher to new music. He enjoys snowboarding, so much so that he even missed coloring Easter eggs due to a long day on the slopes.
