Student of the Week Riley Heath

Freshman at Nex+Gen Academy

Riley's school experience: "My experience at Nex+Gen has been astounding. I enjoy coming to school every day. Both the students and the teachers are nice, caring, friendly, and helpful. The half-hour city bus ride to school is definitely worth it. I believe that by attending Nex+Gen, I really have changed the course of my life. I have been exposed to new things that I would have never experienced before. Classes like computer graphics, for instance, have shown me new ways to express my creativity. Before taking Nex+Gen’s public speaking elective, I was afraid to open my mouth, both in public and in class. One of the best parts about Nex+Gen, however, is the computer. Every student gets a free Macbook Air that they can take home with them for all four years of high school. Now I feel that I have a voice. If I had the chance, I would recommend Nex+Gen to everyone."

Favorite course: "My favorite course is Concentric Democracy. That is a cross between English and Social Studies."

Plans for the future: "After graduation, I would like to attend college somewhere in the Southwest, close to home. Then, I would like to explore a career as a writer or microbiologist, since microbiology has always interested me. No matter what, however, I will never forget my roots here in New Mexico."
