Student of the Week: Rachel Lentz

Twelfth grade at Highland HS

Congratulations to Rachel Lentz, a senior at Highland High School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation!

Tell us a little about your school experience:
The best decision that I made as I entered high school was getting involved in organizations in my school that extend into my community. High school involvement has taught me to be a better leader and it has given me structure as a high school student. This year I am learning about my school, fellow students, and community through the honor of being elected as student body president. I have met my best friends here and learned that it is okay to have unlimited spirit. High school has helped me mature into the person I am today.

What’s your favorite course:
Though I don't necessarily consider my person and my passions as correlating with literature, my favorite course is my AP Lit class because of the extensive discussion we have in that class. I enjoy the discussion aspect because I can openly express my thoughts and opinions while listening to other points of view I may not have previously considered.

What are your plans for the future:
Currently I don't know where I will be in 5 or 10 years. I do know I will attend a four year college to receive a masters degree. Right now, I am considering a major in environmental studies and using that course of study to enter law school. My dream job currently is becoming an environmental lawyer.
