Student of the Week: Melina Luna

Congratulations to Melina Luna, a fifth grader at Longfellow Elementary School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation!

What can a parent or teacher say about this student?
Melina is the youngest of four girls; she is a smart, talented, athletic, kindhearted person. She is very charismatic if there is someone asking for money she is looking for spare change to give to them, it makes her sad to think someone does not have a home. Melina has been known for making me pick up stray dogs to either call the owner or taking them to a shelter (she gets that from her older sister). She loves animals and hopes to be a Veterinarian someday.

What’s this student’s favorite subject?
Melina's favorite subject is Science because it's fun and she likes
to figure out how things work and why.

What are this student’s hobbies or activities, both at school and outside of school?
Melina's favorite activities include playing basketball with her AYBL
and AAU Albuquerque Sparks basketball team; she has played basketball since
kindergarten and absolutely loves the game.  She also loves singing "Don't
rain on my parade" by Barbra Streisand, playing Barbie's with her sisters
and cousin, shooting her bow and arrow and gardening.
