Student of the Week: Madison Diethorn

Congratulations to Madison Diethorn, a senior at Freedom High School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation!

Tell us a little about your school experience:
I had a rough time starting high school. I hated school. I was not very happy and had a hard time opening up to people. When I came to Freedom, everything changed. I started Freedom as a repeating 11th grader. I was supposed to have been a graduating senior but because of health reasons and excessive absences, I got way behind. Freedom helped me catch up in one year and I am now set to graduate in May. The people, kids and staff alike, are so encouraging and friendly. They made it easier for me to open up and actually like and enjoy school! I never thought I would say those words in the same sentence. School is now such an enjoyable experience that I am looking forward to continuing my education in college.

What’s your favorite course?
My favorite courses would have to be art and Shakespeare.

What are your plans for the future?
I plan on going to college after I graduate and do something in the fine arts. I am not sure which area yet, but I am exploring all my options.
