Student of the Week: Gardenia Gomez

12th grader at Atrisco Heritage Academy HS

Congratulations to Gardenia Gomez, a twelfth grader at Atrisco Heritage Academy, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation!

Tell us a little about your school experience:
Currently, I’m a proud Senior Jaguar. Atrisco Heritage Academy is a phenomenal school with amazing staff members and amazing teachers. Honestly, I couldn’t have had all these unique and memorable experiences/ memories without my teachers and classmates. The school experiences I’ve had had practically changed my life. From helping a classmate to being involved in numerous organizations and activities at my school. I’ve been to the state legislature in Santa Fe thanks to my profoundly amazing Principal, Mr. Gonzales; that was a marvelous school experience in which I gained a lot of knowledge. I’ve also been involved in numerous UNM programs through Atrisco Heritage Academy. But, my teachers are the ones who motivate me day by day to strive for success. Especially our College Go counselor, Angelica Delgadillo, who helps us and motivates us for a brighter future.

What’s your favorite course?
Well, my all time favorite courses to take are AP classes. The learning criteria and environment is outstanding and gets a student prepared to how a college environment feels like.

What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to make a positive change in my community and in society as a whole. I have an extreme passion for the medical; therefore, I plan to attend to The University of New Mexico to major on biology and chemistry and double major in Spanish. I believe education is the key to success.
