Student of the Week: Angelica Macias

Congratulations to Angelica Macias, a fifth grader at Susie Rayos Marmon Elementary School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation!

What can a parent or teacher say about this student?
Angelica is the student we are talking about when we talk about grit.  Angelica delights in a challenge. She is adored by her teachers and held in high regard by her classmates.  In the classroom, when  working on balancing algebraic equations Angelica becomes so focused and motivated that it did not take her but a few problems to grasp the concepts and start applying the rules and supporting others. She is highly motivated to succeed in what ever endeavor she chooses to pursue.  Recently, Angelica started playing baseball and during batting practice fouled the ball from her lip.   Angelica took a few seconds to wipe the blood off and then got back in the batter box and hit three more balls and continued her game.  Angelica never gives give up.  Whatever she begins, she will always see it through. Angelica is a young lady with grit and perseverance.

Angelica is a leader among her peers and strives towards accomplishment, but never at the cost of her classmates or teammates.  When she is involved in classroom competitions she becomes very very serious, however, she never loses sight of the bigger picture, supporting others.  She has given up her chance to win first place in order to take the time to help a fellow student.

Angelica has a quick sense of humor and loves to share a laugh with her friends. Her good nature and her grit have made her the kind of student that we are all so proud of.

What’s this student’s favorite subject?
Angelica likes the challenge of math. She likes its fast moving pace and the endless set of challenges it offers. Angelica has some incredible artistic talents and has produced many amazing pieces of art.

What are this student’s hobbies or activities, both at school and outside of school?
In addition to being a stellar student Angelica is a motivated athlete. Whether it is cheerleading, guitar or baseball she will put in the hours to ensure that she gets the results she is after.
