Student of the Week: Angela Garcia

Congratulations to Angela Garcia, a 10th grader at New Futures School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation.

Tell us a little about your school experience:

My school experience was hard at first. Then it got harder because we moved a lot. I tried to stay studying at New Futures, but life affected me and I dropped out. After I had my son, I thought about going back to school to show him that school education is very important because it is harder to get your GED than your diploma. I got back in school and am currently a 10th grader and I have learned a lot from overcoming my obstacles in life! I advise people to stay in school because it is tough out in the world without a diploma!

What’s your favorite course?

I would say my favorite class is English, because I get to make Power Points and understand the stories. It is interesting and you get to explore into the story. I have improved my reading level by a grade and a half so far this year.

What are your plans for the future?

In the future, after graduation, I plan to go to CNM to study to become a nursing assistant. I plan to support my son and when I am finished with the nursing assistant program, work and go back to school to become a middle school teacher.
