Congratulations to Abby Spinelli, 8th grader at Madison Middle School, for being named the Student of the Week by the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union and the APS Education Foundation.

December 2, 2011

Tell us a little bit about your school experience:

School, especially 8th grade, has been full of hard work but has also been very rewarding. I have challenged myself with advanced/AP classes and learned a lot. I think middle school is a very important stepping stone because Madison is preparing me for high school and beyond.

It’s always fun learning new things and I have great teachers and support, like my mother. School helps me think about my future and what I want to be. What I do here and in high school will affect the rest of my life.

What is your favorite subject?

I enjoy both language arts and math; they are the classes that challenge me the most.

What are your hobbies or activities both at school and outside of school?

I love dancing; jazz, ballet, tap and hip-hop. I have been dancing for nine years with Marshall Performing Arts. At Madison, I am part of the symphonic band. I have played the bassoon for three years and want to continue in high school. I play in the jazz bands, both bassoon and trombone.
