Spring 2013 Horizon Awards Can Rock Your Classroom

Applications for the fifth cycle of the APS Education Foundation Horizon Awards are now available. The program has infused over $300,000 worth of excitement, energy and innovation into classrooms since it began in the fall of 2010.

Bank of Albuquerque will sponsor a school team literacy grant for the spring Horizon Campaign awards.

Projects are funded to support one of four focus areas: literacy, fine arts, middle and high school activities, and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math.)

Grants selected for funding must address how student achievement will be enhanced by the project, how the project is innovating new ways to teach and learn, and how it provides  a model of a successful project that can be exported to other classrooms or schools.

Go here for more information on the Horizon Awards. Deadline for the spring cycle is March 8.

This year’s cycle is enhanced by a new sponsorship of $5,000 from the Bank of Albuquerque specifically for literacy. Schools interested in this literacy grant should address the purchase of books, support for the school library in terms of a mini-makeover, and meaningful use of Bank of Albuquerque employees in some grant activities.

Thanks to Bank of Albuquerque for continuing to support literacy, a major corporate focus, in our schools.

The APSEF invites other interested businesses to contact Executive Director Phill Casaus at casaus@aps.edu or Partnerships Manager Lauren Joule at joule@aps.edu for more information about sponsoring Horizon grants this spring.

Check the APS Education Foundation website in the next few months for stories on how the Fall 2012 grants are enhancing classrooms across the district through innovative use of both traditional materials and cutting edge technology. Give some thought to how your classroom or a team from your school might excite your students and encourage the love of learning this spring. Thanks to all the community partners that have agreed to sponsor the Horizon Campaign; more donors will be highlighted in subsequent stories.
