Nominate a Selfless Senior Today

A Selfless Senior is a student who gives back to his community, who hasn’t been recognized by his high school, who has made a positive impact on others facing difficulties and whose character sets him apart.

Anyone can nominate a Selfless Senior – teachers, fellow students, administrators, community members, neighbors. You can nominate a Selfless Senior now through mid-October using our online nomination form.

Sometimes, the stars in high school don’t have a uniform number, or wear a homecoming tiara, or deliver the valedictory address at graduation.

Sometimes, they’re just terrific kids – driven to help others in the community without fanfare or recognition.

Those people are Selfless Seniors. And the APS Education Foundation honors them each spring in recognition of their commitment to promoting positive change in the lives of others.

“You’ll never attend a ceremony quite as moving as Selfless Seniors,” said Foundation Executive Director Phill Casaus. “What many of these kids do for others will put a lump in your throat.”

To qualify as a Selfless Senior, students need to be APS seniors who:

  • Give back to their community.
  • Have a positive impact on others.
  • Place a high value on honesty and hard work.
  • Are serious about their futures, yet find time to help those in need.
  • Have been largely unrecognized at their schools or by the community.

Seniors selected for the honor have their photographs taken by acclaimed local photographer Frank Frost, a West Mesa High grad who gives of his time and talents to show each student in the best possible light. Those photos, along with biographies on each senior, are displayed at each high school campus and various businesses around town. The students also are recognized at a district wide celebration in the spring.
