Rio Grande Science Teachers Recognized

Lisa Caldwell, Bill Creech, Bill Gorum, Dolores Salazar and Elizabeth Scharrer were named Teachers of the Month by Pepsi and the APS Education Foundation.

When it came to choosing a teacher of the month, Rio Grande High School Principal Yvonne Garcia got it narrowed down to five: science teachers Lisa Caldwell, Bill Creech, Bill Gorum, Dolores Salazar and Elizabeth Scharrer were recognized recently as the Pepsi/APS Education Foundation Teacher(s) of the Month.

"These members of the Science Department took it upon themselves themselves to undergo and implement a new system for immediate feedback on students in addition to using AVID strategies and the Science AVID notebook," Garcia said. "The training began prior to the first day of school. In addition, they have a trainer come into their classroom and work with them as well as during their PLC/prep time. Their instruction is changing and we will see great results with our students."

Pepsi, in partnership with the APS Education Foundation, is recognizing APS teachers for their outstanding contribution to the classroom, school and community.  The Foundation randomly selects one APS school each month, and that school’s principal or staff chooses a teacher to be honored. The teacher receives a $100 check from Pepsi and acknowledgement on the APS website, Facebook page and electronic billboards at Cibola, Del Norte and Eldorado high schools and Wilson Stadium.
