Students with Perfect Attendance Can Win a New Car

The Albuquerque New Car and Truck Dealers Association once again is sponsoring a car giveaway for sophomores, juniors or seniors who go the entire year without an absence.

Eldorado student Allante Vanderslice won a new car for perfect attendance.

There’s nothing like that new-car smell. And that sweet scent will be attainable for APS high school students who have perfect attendance during the 2013-14 school year.ABQ New Car & Truck Dealers Assoc.

The Albuquerque New Car and Truck Dealers Association once again is sponsoring a car giveaway for sophomores, juniors or seniors who go the entire year without an absence. Students who make the cut will be entered into a drawing next spring, with the winner turning the key to a new vehicle donated by the association.

“It’s a real reward for students who go to class every single day,” said Superintendent Winston Brooks. “But just as important is the association’s message to all our kids – attendance is critical, because it increases your potential to learn.”

In the 2012-13 school year, 57 APS students qualified for the drawing, which also included students with charter schools and the Rio Rancho Public Schools. An Eldorado student, Allante Vanderslice, walked away with a new Mazda 3.

For each year of perfect attendance, 10th, 11th or 12th grade students receive an extra chance at the car.

Key stipulations include:

  • Only sophomores, juniors and seniors are eligible.
  • A student must have no absences.
  • A student must have a valid driving permit/license.
  • A student must have insurance. If the student is under the age of 18, he or she must have a parent/guardian with them at the drawing and when it is time to receive the car.
