More to A is for Art! than Art

The fourth annual event on Friday, Sept. 20, will not only showcase student artists but also APS high school musicians and performers. And now you can support them, too.

Reserve your spot by Sept. 13. Ticketless reservations will reduce stress and ease check-in.

In the past, your opportunities to bid at A is for Art! generally were limited to visual art pieces produced by students or teachers.

No longer. This year, if you have an ear for music – and not just an eye for art – you can bid on the works of other talented APS students.

The live auction during A is for Art! on Friday, Sept. 20, at Hotel Albuquerque will feature the opportunity to bid on the Fine Arts Department at Atrisco Heritage Academy High School, home of the Jaguars. Atrisco Heritage, like all APS schools, has vibrant offerings, but can always use more resources. The school was selected for this honor in a random drawing.

But your choices won’t be limited. We’ll have volunteers offering you the opportunity to support the Fine Arts Departments at all APS comprehensive high schools.

So, if you want to donate to a program of your choice, you’ll have the ability to do so. Fund A Fine Arts Program forms can be located at the check-in desk or look for the Fund A Program sales team members who will be walking around the event.

Performers at the fourth annual event that begins at 5 p.m. include:

  • The Cibola High School flamenco guitar group under the direction of Eduardo Trujillo
  • The Volcano Vista jazz band under the direction of Paul Blakey
  • Eldorado High School Gold Rush, the school’s two-time defending state champion mixed show choir under the direction of Megan Rader
  • La Cueva Camerata, the school's orchestra group under the direction of Rebecca Simons
  • Atrisco Heritage Academy High’s mariachi group.
